Episode5:
It was a Sunday. Sandesh would usually spend an entire
holiday lying lazily on his bed. But, today he was jumping around his room; getting ready to go out with Adhya. They had exchanged their numbers and a lot more text messages. Texting
Adhya had become the top most priority in Sandesh’s daily time-table. Smartphones are such wonderful things. You’ll be locked inside your room, but the whole world will be wide open in your palm. Once I heard someone say, “This world is full of smart phones and stupid people”. How true!! We behave as if we can’t live without our cellphones. And present youths; they just sit inside their room, chat, chat and chat. Facebook, WhatsApp, Hike... they made life so complicated. “We might live without oxygen for hours, but we can’t live without our cellphones for even a fraction of a second”, they say. Well, let’s come back to the point. Sandesh kept texting Adhya. First he asked about her work in the company, then about her, later about her family. And when there was nothing left to ask, he texted anyway. He was obsessed with her. On the previous day, during the conversation, Adhya had said that she’s afraid of darkness and of imaginary ghosts.
Wow!! Then, I’ll take you to a horror movie and just sit and watch your expressionJ”.
Sandesh had thrown a stone at a tree; just a wild throw. But, it did make a fruit fall.
Oh, you will be completely entertained” she had replied normally. Sandesh put himself to work. He browsed the internet and had found a theater nearby that played a horror movie. He then replied to her message,
Okay then, tomorrow 10am show at Swagath Garuda. We’ll go to Annabelle
What!? Are you serious?”
Of course, I’m
It’s in Jayanagar 4th T block, right?”
 “Yup
Done. I’ll be there on timeJJJJ
It was fixed. Sandesh didn’t sleep entire night. He kept dreaming about the things that might happen during the movie. He kept looking at the time every now and then, wishing if he could fast forward it. Time’s so cruel. It flies in high speed jets when you want it to slow down a bit and it crawls like a snail when you want it to pick up speed a bit. Uncontrollably, he got up and started getting ready. He changed his dress innumerable times till he felt he looked nice and decent. He was out of his house in a flash. Savita wondered what happened to her. Before she could open her mouth, Sandesh was running on the streets, stopping auto-rickshaws to reach his destination. He reached the mall at 08:30am. After waiting for a while, he called Adhya to check where she was. She replied in a sleepy voice, “Why’re you there so early, Sandesh? I woke up just now. I’ll be there soon”. Now he realized that he was early; too early that they hadn’t even opened the front door. He roamed around without any other thoughts, but just of Adhya. He simply went up and down the stairs to kill time. But, the mischievous time never listens to anyone. It plays its part very well. When they opened INOX’s ticket counter, Sandesh got in the queue to buy tickets. There were about ten people standing ahead of him in the queue. He wondered where they came from as he hadn’t noticed much people around before. How could he? He was lost in thoughts. His phone beeped with a text message from Adhya,
I’m hereJJJJ
He separated himself from the crowd and rushed down to join his angel. He almost jumped off the last few steps. She was at the entrance by that time. She was wearing a sky blue coloured T-shirt and a dark blue Levi’s. Her hair was left untied which was flying slowly with the wind. She smiled and waved at Sandesh as she saw him. She looked absolutely gorgeous. Sandesh stood there, watching her. He felt like hugging and kissing her. But, his body showed no movement. His hands wanted to embrace the beautiful lady standing in front of him. But, his mind didn’t support the idea.
“Hey” was all he could say.
“Hey, handsome. Sorry I’m late”
“You’re right on time” and then he was speechless.
“We’re already late. Shall we keep moving?” Adhya asked breaking the silence.
“Yeah, sure”
They head towards the lift. Outside, standing near the stairs, were three men, smoking cigarettes. On seeing this Sandesh became alert. He knew Adhya don’t like the smell of it. Even he himself didn’t like it. Smoking is such a stupid and harmful habit. People suck smoke and blow it out. If they don’t want to swallow what they take in, why on the earth do they do it? They’ve printed with bold letters on the very packet, SMOKING CAUSES CANCER, which people neglect easily. Perhaps, they’re following the saying, “don’t judge by the cover” so deeply. If asked a chain smoker, he’ll say, “We all die one or the other day. Let me enjoy my life”. Well, of course everyone die. If while walking, a snake bites, then it’s normal. I mean, death is an unexpected guest. But, smoking is like dancing in front of the snake shouting, “Bite me, bite me”. Seriously, quit smoking. At least for the sake of exempting the whole world from watching those long advertisements they play before any movie in a theater which describes annoyingly the effects of smoking.
Grrr!! Where was I? Oh yes!!
So, Sandesh escorted Adhya safely into the lift. The lift was already crowded. Most of them were college students. They were making fun of some politicians; mimicking and laughing loudly. When in presence of some beautiful girls, their drama grew more and more. Sandesh kept glaring at them, like he’s prepared to eat them raw and was thinking from which part he should begin. When the lift’s door opened, he held Adhya’s hand and moved slowly out of the lift, as if she’s a nuclear bomb and will blast by the touch of any other male. He bought the tickets and took her inside the theater. The theater was very less crowded. There were only countable people. The movie began. Hollywood people know how to scare the hell out of people and give them their money’s worth. Their concept, presentation, audio and video effects everything work extraordinarily well in stealing the hearts of the people. Sandesh’s eyes were on Adhya from the beginning of the movie till the end. He could see her face clearly even in that darkness. She was closing her eyes half with her both hands. She also held Sandesh’s hand a couple of times in fear. After this continuing 3-4 times, Sandesh grew courageous and placed his palm over hers’. She turned towards him; smiled. Then their fingers locked tightly! After that, Sandesh’s mind was all around it. He was dancing inside. He kept dreaming till the movie ended. Sandesh was feeling hungry. He had not eaten anything since morning.
“Hungry?”
“Yeah, a lot”
“Come. Let’s go to the food court then”
Sandesh ordered veg sandwiches and apple milk shakes for both of them as insisted by Adhya. She even said, “If you want a different thing, just change the order”. But, Sandesh had denied saying, “No. It’s fine. I love apple milk shakes”. Actually, he hated it to the core. It’s strange how love changes an individual. You do things you don’t want to even try just because your partner likes it. Things involved with love can’t be expressed in words. It can only be felt from heart and can only be shared with the silent connection of hearts. After ordering, they sat at a nearby table. Adhya spoke up breaking the silence, “Today was fun”
“Yeah. I enjoyed it a lot too; watching your face”
“My face?!”
“Ya! I meant to say, your expressions during the movie”
“I had told you that I’m afraid of these GHOSTS and all. I don’t know how I’ll sleep for a week. You’ll have to keep my mind diverted till I fall asleep”
“With pleasure”
Their order arrived at the table. Both of them were hungry enough to finish it in the next 10 minutes. They sat there talking for some more time. Then Adhya said suddenly, “Shall we go? I remembered some work”
“Yeah. Sure”, Sandesh replied half-heartedly, controlling the sadness her words caused. They walked down the steps to the exit. Sandesh was following her slowly and silently, still wanting to spend a bit more time with her. He helped her find an auto-rickshaw. She turned to look at him before boarding. Sandesh was very sad. But, his face displayed a small smile, just for her. Then, she came close to him, leaned forward, slid her arms around him, gave a small, quick hug and left. Sandesh stood there, his mouth opened in amaze. He played that moment back and fro for several minutes in his mind. He was about to lose his balance. But, then he managed and sat down. The hug was quick and small but its effect on Sandesh was long lasting. It’ll take very long for him to recover. So, let’s take a break here, shall we?
